We walked on a giant salt lake.  We stayed at a Opal Mine in Coober Pedy.  After that at 7pm we did a underground Opal tour.   I learnt how to use the devining rods which you use to find water.

Took a walk to Lake Hart from rest area approx 90km south of Glendamba; the lake is a dried salt lake and amazingly white against a big blue sky
Booked into Riba’s Underground Tent Camping and Tourist Park for 2 nights.  Our first night was 50% off and included a mining tour.  The boys did that while I attended to some internet banking and emails.   There are approximately 3000 open mine shafts in the area, so the advice is not to let you kids go wandering or you lose them forever (mmmm.....) The campground for tents is underground as the temperature here gets up to 50 degrees in the summer; the area also has underground motel rooms and a Thunder Dunny (Toilet) which is open 24 hours.

  3. Hi Mark, Nicole and Luke,

Aunty Kay let us know this afternoon that we can follow your adventures on this blogspot. So we've been having a look and it's really great to be able to see all the terrific things you've been doing, we hope you keep having a wonderful and safe trip :)

The disused mine shafts in Coober Pedy are frightening, aren't they! I remember when I went there, we were out in the Public Noodling area, I was just about to step onto a sheet of cardboard, which had been covered over by dirt and was barely visible. It turned out that sheet of cardboard was covering a disused mine shaft and had I stepped on it, I would have most likely fallen into the mine shaft! I was terrified to walk around there after that experience and so we gave up on the idea of Noodling :) Tracys Greek Restuarant in Coober Pedy was the best, they had incredible food! Did you notice if they are still there?

Aunty Kay asked me to say hello, she wanted to post a comment, but wasn't sure how to, I think she will try to give it a go later.

Bye for now, enjoy every precious moment of being together as a family, making memories that you will cherish for a life time :)
    With Love,
    from your cousin Angela
